Empaths are emotional magnets!

Empaths pick up the emotions and energy around them, and others tend to deplete our energy and overwhelm our emotions.  They, of course, do not do this intentionally, but it happens nevertheless. This can be absolutely exhausting! Empaths do not have that the emotional and energy field that most people have.  This is what makes us empaths.  We feel at a much more intense level. There are several types of empaths. Each type has its own characteristics but can also overlap.  My strongest sensitivities are intuitive and emotional.

Intuitive empaths are more in tune with their intuitive abilities in general. We are good judges of character. We pick up on good or bad “vibes” right away. Trust that “vibe” and if you pick up bad energy stay away from that person.   If that isn’t possible it’s a good idea to keep them at arm’s length.  We can tell when someone is lying.  We can read the atmosphere of a room easily.  Whether it’s just visiting a friend or at a large gathering, we are able to walk in and sense joy or tension (and everything in between).

Emotional empaths are highly sensitive people themselves. Feelings get hurt easily, something very simple like a neighbor mowing the lawn very early in the morning can annoy us more quickly than it would someone else. At the same time, something in our everyday routines can pop up and fill us with overwhelming joy and love.  Simple things can bring us peace.

Emotional empaths pick up other people’s energy.  It doesn’t matter if it’s good or bad we pick it up.  We are like magnets for all types of emotional energy.  We feel people’s emotions as well.  We can feel if someone is sad (even if they haven’t said anything about it) and needs to be comforted. We can feel happiness radiate off of someone, and even if we aren’t having a stellar day we absorb that happiness and can put aside the fact that we are having a less than stellar day (at least for a while).  We feel negativity and anger when we are in the presence of a person feeling those emotions. Negativity and anger are the hardest for me to deal with.  They put my anxiety through the roof! Simply walking through a grocery store can be overwhelming for an empath. We pick up energy from every single person we walk by! We feel our own emotions and all of the emotions absorbed from the people that we have been around in that day.  All of those emotions stay with us much longer than just while we are in the presence of those people. Talk about emotional overload!  For this reason, empaths need solitude. Whether it’s a sacred place or in nature, we need to be away from other people in order to reenergize and heal ourselves.

Because we pick up so many emotions and so much energy it’s very important to protect your own energy. We have to protect ourselves from all of that emotional clutter.  An easy way to protect yourself is to meditate.  You can do a full meditation.  If you don’t have time do 3 minutes of deep breathing while picturing either a white or pink (love) light enveloping your entire body.  Putting a protective bubble/shield  around yourself.  You can do this multiple times a day if needed. Carrying a piece of black tourmaline is a good idea too.

Cleansing your energy regularly is very important! If you don’t keep that emotional clutter out of your energy You may suffer from exhaustion.  Personally, exhaustion is the first to affect me. Depending on the intensity of the situation or not protecting and cleansing it may take me days to regain energy. You also become prone to moodiness, depression, anxiety and even physical ailments.

Cleansing can be done easily as well.  Empaths love water!  It cleanses and grounds at the same time. Take a bath or shower.  As the water washes over you just visualize the negative energy being washed away by the water. Take your time and focus on each part of your body head to toe.  Another easy way to cleanse your energy is with sage. Allow the smoke from the sage to surround you. Since smoke rises, I start at my feet and move the sage in a circular motion.  I do this all the way up my body finishing at the top of my head.

Being an empath is a wonderful gift!  Since we can feel others emotion’s we are able to give someone a “pick me up” without having to ask questions about why they are feeling what they are feeling.  We can lend compassion and love, and so much more to people and the world in general.  We are healers!  We are truly blessed.

A great book for any empath to read is “The Empath’s Survival Guide” by Judith Orloff. It is packed with helpful information and exercises.

As always, feel free to leave comments or questions.  If you get the book, I would love to hear your thoughts.

Blessings to all!

Protect yourself while you continue to learn about your abilities

Grounding and Meditation are very, very important when you have any kind of sensitivity.  And you may find that you several going on all at once. As important as grounding and meditating is protecting yourself.

I am a psychic medium and an empath. It seems pretty straight forward doesn’t it? I have learned there are many sensitivities/abilities that work together to make up the classifications “psychic medium” and “empath”.

More than likely you, like I, are experiencing one or more if “the clairs”.  In my experience it is “the clairs” that roll up into more broad titles in the psychic world.  See below.

Clairvoyant (clear seeing), Clairsentient (clear feeling), Claircognizant (clear knowing or intuition), Clairalience (clear smelling), Clairaudient (clear hearing), Clairgustance (clear tasting).

Talk about sensory overload!

Now it’s time manage them and protect yourself (while you continue learning). It is important to protect yourself for your own well- being. No matter the ability or abilities you have one of the most important things to learn in the beginning is how to protect yourself! Grounding and meditation play a big part in protection, however, there are other ways to protect yourself.  Ask the universe, your spirit guides, and your angels to allow only positive energy and experiences to enter your energy field. You may not have connected with your spirit guides or angels yet, but they are with you and they do listen.  The key is, you have to ask them for what you need.  It is also very important to thank them and let them know that you are grateful for their help and all of the blessings in your life.

At the beginning of my meditations, as I focus on my breathing, I envision a while light coming downward into the top of my head (where the crown chakra is located).  I visualize the light pouring down over my body forming a bubble around me.  This white light is protection given by the divine universe.  This is not limited to meditation.  I take a moment to envision this white light when I feel that I need to do so.  As an empath this is particularly helpful when I know I am going into a very high energy situation, large crowd or am going to be around someone that I know carries negative energy of any kind.  I even do this before going into a doctor’s office.  Empaths pick up all energy that they encounter. Even energy that is left behind by others.  If I don’t protect myself, I pick up that energy and unknowingly project those emotions onto others. Not protecting yourself can also drain you mentally and physically. That energy stays with me until I cleanse my own energy.  Sometimes I do this by using a sage stick and surrounding my body top to bottom.  I repeat “All negativity and darkness must go, only love, light and peace may enter”. Taking a bath or shower as described in my last post is my other go to since it is my favorite.

Cleansing and protecting your home is also very important. Whether it be spirit or energy that comes into your home with other people it’s important to protect your space by cleansing it on a regular basis.  The easiest way that I have found and is most widely used is smudging.  It’s easy to do and it works.  Get your sage stick and light the end of it using a lighter or clicker (a lighter that is used for lighting candles, BBQ grills etc.). Once lit turn the stick up side down and let the flame envelop the end, then blow it out.  You will probably have to blow on the end of the stick to get the embers within to keep the embers hot and smoking.  Once you have smoke coming off of it you are ready to start. I simply move my arm in a circular motion repeating “No darkness or negativity is allowed in this space.  Only love, light and peace may enter”. I do this through every room in my home.  It’s important that every door and window in the house has been smudged (I go all the way around each door and window).  Once completed put the stick out in a safe container. I use an abalone shell.  You can also put it out by gently rubbing it on the earth. Not only does this cleanse the energy in your home, but it will help to keep negative or dark spirits out.  I do this about every 2 weeks, but if my intuition tells me I need to do it before the 2 week mark then I do it.  Listen to that intuition. 😊

There is so much more to protection (which I will talk about in another post).  The methods listed above will do the trick no matter how many other methods we discuss.

As always, please leave your questions and comments for discussion.

Blessings to all!

Grounding – Washing unwanted energy away

I mentioned in my last post that red jasper helped me ground for meditation. While that was a wonderful thing and helped me to get to the point of quieting my mind in order to meditate there is so much more to it than holding a stone in your had. It’s important to ground yourself as often as you can. Some people may be able to be grounded without as much conscious effort as others. For me it’s a bit challenging, but as I continue to work on it the easier it gets.  The first and easiest way to ground is to stand barefoot or sit on the earth.  You are literally grounding yourself to the earth. Now, I live in Colorado so standing barefoot or sitting on the ground in the middle of winter when it’s cold and snowy just isn’t appealing to me. This being the case I had to find other ways to ground myself during the winter.  What I found that works the best for me is taking a bath. Whether in nature or in the bathtub water comes from the earth and therefore is grounding.  This is especially helpful for empaths (which is one of my gifts)! Run a bath and put Epsom salt or essential oils in the water (I prefer lavender since it is a relaxing fragrance).  Totally submerge your body. Dip your head under the water just so that the water has completely covered your body to start with.  I rest in the water and repeat “Ground and center mind body and soul”.  I repeat the mantra until I feel grounded and centered. Until I feel that it no longer needs to be repeated.  Sometimes it takes longer than others. Once I am grounded and centered and feel relaxed all over I start draining the water. I visualize all negative energy flowing down the drain.  Some people envision this as a black color swirling down the drain.  I see little sparks hit the drain and disappear.  I didn’t envision that intentionally, it’s just what came to me.  Let the bathtub drain completely while envisioning the negative energy disappear down the drain.  I always feel much more grounded, centered and light when I am finished with my bath.  You can also do this while showering. It is the same premise.  As you shower, starting at your head, visualize any negative or unwanted energy being rinsed off your body with the flow of the water.  I visualize it being rinsed off just as soap would be.  Make sure to focus on every part of your body.  You can use the above mantra or simply feel the water rinsing all of that energy away.  I love this particular technique because it is incorporated into daily life very easily since physical hygiene is a daily routine for most people. I feel incredible after a bath or shower using this visualization.

There are so many more ways to ground and center and I’ll talk about those a bit more later.  I had to share this method first because it’s one of the easiest and my favorite!

If this sounds like something that would work for you give it a try.  I would love to hear about your experience with this method.  Or if you have other methods that really work for you please share them.  Keeping an open mind and trying new things is part of the fun of enriching and developing your abilities!

God Bless!
